At MFI, your Injector takes the time to evaluate your concerns and determine whether your sunken temples should be treated on their own, or if treating adjacent areas would give you optimal results.
Targeted Sunken Temple Treatment
Our highly skilled Injectors administer filler to the temples to create a smooth contour and transition from the forehead to the sides of the head.
At first, we didn’t notice the hollowed temples because this woman wore her hair down. But when we were evaluating her eyes, Dr. Mabrie noticed the temples had lost quite a bit of volume, giving her face a somewhat skeletal appearance. This can happen as we get older and lose fat in our temples, but it is easily treated using filler. Dr. Mabrie applied RADIESSE® to her temples over the course of 3 treatments.
This woman in her 40s came to us focused on volume loss in her cheeks and chin. After a holistic evaluation, Dr. Mabrie determined filler to the temples would complement her lower face rejuvenation. The result is an overall more youthful, vibrant appearance.

Our Injector Kimberly, PA-C, used JUVÉDERM® VOLUMA®, a dense hyaluronic acid filler, to lift the temples and decrease the concavity. In addition, she treated the patient’s forehead. The entire upper third of his face has a smoother contour, harmonizing the rest of his features.
How Much Does Filler in the Temples Cost?
At Mabrie Facial Institute, our temple contouring procedure is priced based on the Injector and the volume of filler needed. This cost includes your first appointment and the fillers used, as well as your second appointment and one additional syringe of filler. If additional syringes are needed, those are priced at a discount.

Once your temples are looking their absolute best, you’ll enter into the maintenance phase of treatment. This means you only need to come in about every 9 to 12 months for filler touch-ups, which require significantly less filler than your initial treatment.

Consultation and Planning for Your Temple Filler Treatment
Your First Visit
When you arrive at Mabrie Facial Institute, you’ll be WOWed by our stunning San Francisco office and amazed by our friendly and professional team. You’ll have a candid consultation with one of our exceptional Injectors to discuss your goals and expectations. Every patient and every procedure get our Illumination 360° approach, which involves careful examination of your face from every angle, under different lighting, to determine which procedures will result in your ideal contours.
We take professional-level photographs of your face from all angles and refer to them at every visit to identify your concerns and monitor your progress. Using both the photos and the in-person examination, we map out a customized treatment plan tailored to your anatomy and goals.
Please set aside up to 90 minutes for your first visit, which includes consultation, prep, treatment, pre- and post-treatment photography, aftercare education, and scheduling your next appointment. The injections themselves only take about 10 minutes and cause minimal discomfort.
Your Temple Filler Procedure
Dermal fillers are placed in the temples and forehead using a flexible microcannula for optimal comfort and safety. We use several types of hyaluronic acid (HA) dermal fillers from the JUVÉDERM® or Restylane® family of products for this procedure. We may also use Sculptra®, which is a collagen stimulator. We take a conservative approach with the initial filler injections because too much filler can pool, spread, or look unnatural.
If you’ve opted for the Temple & Forehead package, you will return about 1 to 3 months later for a follow-up treatment. This is when we refine your initial forehead results, creating your ideal contours.
Once we’ve established the look you want, you’ll move into the maintenance phase of treatment. This means you’ll have touch-up appointments approximately every 9 months, which require much less filler than the initial treatment.

Preparing for Your Procedure
For the best experience, follow these tips in advance of your appointment:
- A few days before your appointment, restrict blood thinners, such as anti-inflammatories, fish oil, and alcohol. Limiting these will reduce your risk of bruising from temple filler injections.
- DO NOT discontinue prescribed, medically necessary medications.
- Eat and drink a normal breakfast or lunch prior to your appointment; low blood sugar can make patients lightheaded during treatment.
Recovery & Aftercare
Some common injection-related reactions may occur, such as swelling, bruising, pain, itching, discoloration, and tenderness at the injection site. These are normal side effects and are most apparent 24 to 48 hours after treatment. They can last up to 2 weeks, but typically subside within 2 to 5 days. Most patients return to their routine activities the same day.
Swelling
- While swelling with this procedure is typically minimal, it peaks the day after treatment
- This may cause temporary asymmetry, lumps, or bumps
- Will gradually resolve to reveal your final results over 4 to 6 weeks
Bruising
- While bruising is possible, it is usually minimal
Redness & Discomfort
- Often minimal and lasting just a few days
- Your temples may be tender to the touch
Downtime
- No downtime required
- May return to work immediately after treatment
- May resume normal exercise the next day

What is the best filler for the temples?
How long do dermal filler results last in the temples?
Results in this area typically last about 6 to 9 months. If you want to extend the duration of your filler results, the key is a phased approach that anticipates decreasing volume. We create a personal treatment plan for each of our facial contouring patients that includes touch-up treatments 1 or 2 times a year. This keeps the results appearing fresh and reduces the amount of filler needed per treatment.
Is it safe to inject filler in temples?
While dermal filler injections are generally considered safe, there are potential risks and complications associated with any procedure, including infection and improper placement. In rare cases, more serious complications such as vascular occlusion (blockage of blood vessels) can occur, which could have severe consequences. At MFI, we minimize these risks through proper technique, understanding of facial anatomy, and keeping Hylenex® on hand to dissolve filler immediately if there are signs of vascular occlusion.
