You may not think about your forehead much, but it is essential to a healthy, youthful-looking face. It’s visually prominent, comprising the upper third of your face, and key to an attractive profile. The ideal forehead shape is a gentle convexity that is softly rounded with a smooth contour and even texture. Concavities, “dents,” flatness, lines, and asymmetry can detract from the healthy, youthful look of your face.

How To Get Rid of Indentation on Forehead: Your Treatment Options at MFI

Targeted Forehead Treatment

Looking at the forehead from a lateral view, we can see the prominence and curvature of the forehead. Foreheads can either be sloped, straight, or curved, but with age, the forehead may become flat or even concave. Using dermal fillers, we can enhance the contours of the forehead and create the ideal shape. This procedure is great in combination with our BOTOX® for Forehead & Brow package to smooth the surface of the forehead and shape the brows.

Temple & Forehead Package

If volume loss has caused your temples to sink in along with your forehead, you may be a better candidate for our Temple & Forehead package. It includes up to 6 syringes of filler for filling in concavities and restoring a healthy, youthful appearance.

This is a great example of a man who benefited from both forehead and temple filler to improve the overall shape of the top of his face. The forehead and temple can be thought of as one aesthetic unit, and fillers are great at creating pleasing contours.

How Much Does Forehead Filler Cost?

At MFI in San Francisco, forehead filler costs depend on the Injector and how much product is used. Your price includes your first appointment and the fillers used, as well as your second appointment. If additional syringes are needed, those are priced at a discount.

Our Temple & Forehead package includes 6 syringes of filler and 2 appointments. Visit our dedicated pricing page for updated cost information.

Once your forehead is exactly how you want it, you’ll enter into the maintenance phase of treatment. This means you only need to come in about every 9 to 12 months for touch-ups, which require significantly less filler than your initial treatment.

Qualified borrowers may be eligible for 0% financing for 6 to 12 months through CareCredit and Alphaeon medical financing.

What Causes Indentation on the Forehead?

Forehead shape is determined by one’s natural underlying bone structure, specifically the frontal bone. The supraorbital ridge (“brow ridge”) plays a large part in the appearance of the forehead as well. If you have an indent on your forehead, it could be genetic, which is probably the case if you’ve always had it. However, volume loss is often the culprit, especially if you’ve seen the concavity increase, making your brow ridge look heavy or more prominent.

Forehead indentations are often the result of aging, due to bone resorption and facial fat loss. However, some individuals, especially those who are very lean or athletic, lose fat in this area prematurely, resulting in an older appearance. At MFI, we skillfully apply forehead filler to soften a prominent brow and create the ideal forehead shape and contour.

Consultation and Planning for Your Forehead Filler Treatment

Your First Visit

When you walk into our stunning San Francisco office, you’ll experience equal parts luxury, beauty, fun, and compassion. You’ll be escorted to one of our bright treatment rooms where you’ll have a thorough consultation with one of our exceptional Injectors and discuss your concerns and goals. Your Injector carefully examines your face from every angle, under different lighting, to determine which procedures will result in your ideal contours. When it comes to forehead filler, many patients don’t know what a big difference it can make until they see the results for themselves.

At Mabrie Facial Institute, our Illumination 360° approach means your results will look amazing from any angle, in any light. If we agree that forehead shaping with filler will help bring out the best version of you, it will be added to your personal treatment plan. We can usually get started immediately.

Your Forehead Filler Procedure

Our Injectors use filler to reshape the forehead and create an even contour, filling concavities, and providing softer transitions between the supraorbital ridge and upper forehead. We place hyaluronic acid (HA) dermal fillers from the JUVÉDERM® or Restylane® family of products directly on top of the frontal bone to contour the forehead. Treatment in this area involves using a small needle to place the filler right on top of the bone. It is important that the filler is placed in stages through multiple treatments.

Your Forehead Filler May Look Better After Two Treatments

Your second appointment is scheduled for 1 to 3 months after your initial procedure. This staging is necessary because too much filler placed at once can cause the product to spread outwards rather than upwards, resulting in a less than ideal aesthetic result. Importantly, a layered approach allows us to safely administer filler without overfilling and compressing vessels. Forehead filler is an advanced procedure best performed by highly trained injectors.

Preparing for Your Procedure

For the best experience, follow these tips in advance of your appointment:

  • A few days before your appointment, restrict blood thinners, such as anti-inflammatories, fish oil, and alcohol. Limiting these will reduce your risk of bruising from forehead filler injections.
  • DO NOT discontinue prescribed, medically necessary medications.
  • Eat and drink a normal breakfast or lunch prior to your appointment; low blood sugar can make patients lightheaded during treatment.

Recovery & Aftercare

Some common injection-related reactions may occur, such as swelling, bruising, pain, itching, discoloration, and tenderness at the injection site. These are normal side effects and are most apparent 24 to 48 hours after treatment. They can last up to 2 weeks but typically subside within 2 to 5 days.  Most patients return to their routine activities the same day.

Swelling

  • While swelling is typically minimal, it peaks the day after treatment
  • This may cause temporary asymmetry, lumps, or bumps
  • Swelling from filler will gradually resolve to reveal your final results over 4 to 6 weeks

Bruising

  • While bruising is possible, it is usually minimal

Redness & Discomfort

  • Often minimal and lasting just a few days
  • Your forehead may be tender to the touch

Downtime

  • No downtime required
  • May return to work immediately after treatment
  • May resume normal exercise the next day

Forehead Filler FAQs

How long do forehead filler results last?

You can expect your forehead filler results to last approximately 6 to 9 months. We recommend that our patients receive touch-ups on their fillers 1 or 2 times per year in order to prolong their results. By adding more filler before the original product breaks down entirely, we can reduce the number of syringes needed and keep your look fresh without interruption. For more information, read our blog post on how to extend the duration of your fillers.

Do forehead fillers hurt?

The needle used for filler injections is very tiny, as is the blunt-tipped microcannula we insert to guide the filler beneath the skin. You might feel a quick pinch, which feels similar to a toothpick on the skin. Our fillers come pre-mixed with anesthetic, so you shouldn’t feel discomfort after the initial injection. Most individuals experience very little discomfort during their procedure, but you may have bruising or swelling after treatment.

What is recovery like after dermal fillers in the forehead?

It is normal to experience some swelling, bruising, and tenderness in the treatment areas. This should go away within a day or two. About an hour after your procedure, you can reapply makeup. This allows time for the injection sites to close and prevents you from introducing bacteria. You should be able to return to normal daily activities immediately after your treatment.
