The dreaded “double chin” can hide your jawline, soften your lower face, and detract from the lean, fit look we associate with health and vitality. Even slender people sometimes collect fat in this area.
When assessing patients with a “double chin,” it’s important to look at chin projection first, as an underdeveloped chin and weak jawline are frequently the culprits. When we build up a small or recessed chin and add structure to the jawline with filler, it pulls the tissue under the chin taut, reducing the appearance of a double chin.
If excess submental fat is contributing to your double chin, we use a series of KYBELLA injections to dissolve fat in this area. This is often done to complement the results of chin and jawline filler.
At Mabrie Facial Institute, KYBELLA is priced depending on how many treatments you need. Our Chin & Jawline package includes up to 4 syringes of filler and two treatment sessions. Please visit our dedicated pricing page for the most current cost information.
Once you’ve got your perfect chin, you’ll enter into the maintenance phase of treatment. This means you only need to come in about every 9 to 12 months for filler touch-ups, which require significantly less filler than your initial treatment. KYBELLA should not require touching up after your initial series of treatments is complete.
Qualified borrowers may be eligible for 0% financing for 6 to 12 months through CareCredit and Alphaeon medical financing.

Schedule MeSome folks just have a naturally small chin that doesn’t offer much support, making a double chin more likely.
Being fit doesn’t guarantee a sleek jawline. Your body might just love storing extra padding under the chin, no matter your weight.
As we age, collagen dips and skin sags. This can send some extra volume to the lower face, contributing to a double chin.
So, there it is! Whether it’s your bone structure, your body’s fat storage habits, or the natural aging process, there’s more than one reason a double chin might be crashing your selfie game. But don’t stress, treatments are available to help you get that jawline back in shape!
You’ll be greeted at our beautiful San Francisco office by our friendly team, then taken to a treatment room to consult with your Injector. Your personalized consultation includes a discussion of your aesthetic goals and a thorough physical examination, including professional-level photography. Once they determine the best treatment path for you— CHIN & JAWLINE FILLER, KYBELLA, or both—your Injector creates a precise treatment plan.
Please plan to spend about 90 minutes to 2 hours in the office for your first visit, which includes consultation, prep, treatment, pre- and post-treatment photography, aftercare education, and scheduling your next appointment. The injections themselves only take a few minutes and cause minimal discomfort.
CHIN FILLER is placed in different areas to build, layer, sculpt, and contour the lower face. The amount, location, type, and depth of filler are modified according to your desired results. We may use a combination of fillers and place them in locations including just under the skin, under the muscle, or on the underlying bone.
Our skilled Injectors place JAWLINE FILLER just beneath the skin (subcutaneous) to build and sculpt a more defined jawline. For the mandibular angle, we place the filler just under the skin and directly on the bone to increase the prominence of the angle.
During a KYBELLA treatment, your injector places KYBELLA under the skin using a microcannula. A topical anesthetic is applied to help maintain your comfort during the treatment.
With KYBELLA, most patients begin seeing results after 2 to 4 treatment sessions, spaced about a month apart. Up to 6 treatment sessions may be needed to achieve the optimal results. Because KYBELLA destroys the fat cells, they can no longer store or accumulate fat, meaning KYBELLA is considered a permanent treatment.
Chin and jawline filler requires a minimum of two appointments. This staged approach allows us to create structure and support, which are key to natural-looking results. Too much filler all at once can create overfilled, obvious results; we prefer to build and layer until we get it just right.
We wait 1 to 3 months for swelling to resolve before adding filler only where it is needed. At this point, we can place filler in the smaller areas knowing that we have the support in place to keep it there.

For the best experience, follow these tips in advance of your appointment:
Throughout the multiple clinical trials leading to KYBELLA’s approval by the FDA, the most common side effects were the same as seen in most injectable procedures. Minor swelling and redness are typical and diminish after a few days. Numbness, pain, and hardness in the area of the injections are other temporary side effects that may occur.
Because we know you have questions about your recovery process, we created an entire page dedicated to BOTOX and dermal filler aftercare.
Yes, the results of KYBELLA treatment are generally considered permanent, as the treated fat cells die and do not regenerate. It’s important to note that while the reduction in fat is considered permanent, the overall appearance of the neck and jawline can be influenced by factors such as aging, weight changes, and genetics. Additionally, individual responses to the treatment may vary, and some individuals may require multiple treatment sessions to achieve their desired results.
For contouring the chin and jawline, we use fillers from the Restylane® and JUVÉDERM® families and RADIESSE®. For your procedure, depending on your specific needs and goals, we may use a combination of different fillers. Each formulation has its own unique characteristics, and our expert Injectors choose the appropriate product based on factors such as depth of injection and treatment area. Learn more about your different filler options by visiting our Dermal Fillers 101 page.
To manage potential discomfort from the multiple KYBELLA injections, we can use numbing cream or local anesthetic to desensitize the area. This can help minimize any pain or stinging sensation during the procedure. We can also mix lidocaine, a local anesthetic, with the KYBELLA solution to further reduce discomfort.
