Dermal Fillers for Black Skin: Separating Fact from Myth

Mabrie Facial Institute has been helping people look their best with fillers for more than 15 years. Fillers offer a quick, customizable way to make the most of your looks, and more people are taking advantage of this. However, many Black people are still hesitant about getting fillers, which may be due to some common misconceptions. For Black History Month, I decided to clear up some myths about Black people and fillers. Here’s a quick video I made to sum these up:

Dr. Mabrie plays a game of “Fact vs. Myth: Black People & Fillers”

Myth #1: “Black Don’t Crack,” So I Don’t Need Fillers

Black skin isn’t as prone to wrinkling and sun damage, but that doesn’t mean we don’t experience volume loss. Everyone loses volume in their face over time due to the breakdown of bone, fat, muscle, and collagen. That can mean flattened or hollow cheeks, bags or dark circles under the eyes, or a loss of definition in our chin and jawline. I made this video to share some of the many cases of Black women and men who trusted MFI for fillers and got amazing results.

Maybe “Black don’t crack,” but these people prove we can still benefit from fillers.

Myth #2: Non Surgical Nose Filler Will Make You Look White

There have been a few high-profile individuals who underwent surgical rhinoplasty and it seemed to erase their nose’s ethnicity. One of the beautiful things about a non surgical rhinoplasty is that the changes can be subtle and adjustable—meaning you can enhance your nose without sacrificing its character. For example, you may want to smooth a hump or straighten the bridge, and we can do that without losing your beautiful ethnic characteristics. Just take a look at our non surgical rhinoplasty patients in this video:

Nose filler isn’t taboo anymore thanks to the flexibility of non surgical rhinoplasty.

Myth #3: Fillers Aren’t Helpful for Black People

The results that we create with fillers at MFI can benefit people of all ethnicities, ages, and skin colors. That’s because we use fillers to enhance what’s best about your face and bring balance to your features. Fillers can refine your facial contours from the top of your forehead to the tip of your chin, helping you look more attractive and feel more confident. Just take a look at the ways we use fillers to help our beautiful Black patients shine even brighter in this video:
