A Word about Recovery from Facial Cosmetic Procedures
You will experience no pain during the actual procedure. General anesthesia is used for most procedures. You will be asleep during surgery. For some procedures, (ear surgery/otoplasty, upper eyelid surgery/blepharoplasty or scar revision.), a localized injection is used to numb the area. You will be awake for the procedure, but feeling no pain during the procedure. Additionally, patients can be deeply sedated receiving IV sedation or general anesthetic. Patients are routinely surprised by the absence of pain during the recovery process as well, often commenting, "I never had any pain." You may experience mild discomfort a few days after your surgery. Typically, a mild pain-killer or over-the-counter medication is prescribed.
Recovery from facial cosmetic surgery, in general, involves swelling and some bruising. While you will physically be able to walk around, talk, and use the phone, you will have variable amounts of facial swelling and bruising. Depending on your specific job tasks and environment, you may need to take time off while the swelling and bruising decrease.
